AWDA's 61st Annual Business/Education Conference
Embrace Change at AWDA’s 61st Annual Business Conference
At last year’s conference, I described a number of forces and factors that are changing the world and by extension, the way we do business. Remember the bruised and bloody hockey players versus Wayne Gretzky in his designer suit?
I selected this year’s theme, “Embracing Change,” because I believe strongly that we as an industry and as business people are best served by doing just that: embracing change. Embracing the changes required for our industry is more than passive acceptance - it necessitates creating an environment of innovation, dedicating resources to facilitate it and leadership to show the way.
The opportunity to direct these changes exists now more than ever. We have the ability to feed off the momentum of last year’s AWDA conference and continue to build the essential value of our conference: bringing together serious, sophisticated and substantial buyers and sellers of motor vehicle parts and services.
Moreover, as an integral part of the Automotive Aftermarket Product Expo (AAPEX), we are also well positioned to observe and participate in the global trends shaping our industry. AWDA’s presence at AAPEX ensures that North American distributors will remain at the heart of any global changes impacting our industry.
A lot of discussion began at last year’s AWDA conference. A lot of change has been initiated. The need to continue and build upon these communications is essential. Please, give us suggestions on how we can improve and/or categorize scheduled meetings. Challenge us on our planning and logistics of scheduling – your suggestions are paramount in our evolution and improvement.
Don’t miss the opportunity to embrace change and stand – taller than ever – no matter what the future may bring.
Take the opportunity to join me in Las Vegas this fall at AWDA, the premier event for our industry’s premier distributors and at AAPEX, the industry’s biggest and most productive exposition. I am also looking forward to once again renewing our acquaintances at the best reception of Industry Week.
Regards, James A. Tennant, AAP, Chairman 2007-08 AWDA Board of Governors
